A custom website starts with who you are

A template has its own opinion about what matters, and you end up adapting to it. A custom website goes the other way: first we work out who you sell to and what makes you different, and the structure, the visual style and the code follow from that.

What a custom website actually means

A custom website does not mean an expensive website. It means the work happens in the opposite order. With a template you pick an appearance and then pour content into it. With a custom build we start with the content and what the page has to say — and look for the form afterwards.

The difference shows most in the places where your offer differs from everyone else’s. Do you have five services, one of which earns the most? Are you selling an experience that has to be shown in photographs? Is the deciding factor your price list, or is it trust? A template offers the same block for all of those cases. A custom website looks for its own answer to each one.

Custom website vs. template

A template makes sense when you need to be online quickly and the content is simple — a one-off event, say, or a short page with contact details. Past that line it starts to get in the way: the elements you do not need are hard to remove, and the ones you do need are not there.

The second difference is technical. Template systems carry layers of code for features you will never use, and that shows up in speed — most of all on mobile, where most people will see you. A custom website contains only what is actually on it.

And the third, the least visible: your competitors use that template too. When people look through three offers in the same field and all of them look the same, they decide on the only difference left between them — the price.

How a custom website comes together

A conversation first: who you are, who you are here for, where you want to go and what usually holds people back from deciding. From that we pick out what matters and agree on how the brand should come across. This step looks like a delay, but it saves every later argument about the colour of a button — once the direction is clear, decisions come easily.

Then we design the structure: what is on the first screen, in what order the arguments come, where each button leads. The visual style is laid over that — colour, typography, image style and the elements that give the brand character across the website and everything else you publish.

Finally we build and deploy it. We do the development ourselves, so nobody simplifies the design along the way. After launch we go through the measurement, the content and the behaviour on a slow connection, and hand over everything that belongs to the site.

Who a custom website pays off for

It pays off anywhere the website is the main point of first contact — services, hospitality, studios and companies that sell their own work. The more a customer’s decision rests on trust, the more the impression decides, and an impression cannot be assembled from a template.

The second common situation is growth. A company started with one service and today has five; it has a logo from when it worked differently, and a website telling an outdated story about it. Here the job is not to build something from nothing, but to bring what already exists into one shape.

Custom websites and search engines

A custom build gives you full control over technical SEO: heading structure, page addresses, meta descriptions, the sitemap and structured data all follow what your customers are searching for — not what the template can do.

On top of that comes speed, which Google evaluates through Core Web Vitals. A static build served from a CDN starts from a position a CMS plugin will struggle to match. But SEO is a matter of months, not weeks — on a new domain, expect the first visits to come from elsewhere and search to join in later.

What the price includes

The base scope covers the first conversation, the structure, the visual design, help with the copy, the build itself, core SEO, analytics wired up and deployment to your domain. The price for that scope is fixed and you will find it in the pricing section — no line items that appear for the first time on the invoice.

A full identity — brand direction, visual style, messaging and the website — is priced by scope, because every brand starts somewhere different. What you actually need comes out in the first conversation; only after that does talking about price make sense.
